Hansen 1960s 50/50 Mini Model 8'10 Collector Surfboard

Hansen 1960s 50/50 Mini Model 8'10 Collector Surfboard

Here’s a solid 50/50 “MINI” model by Hansen Cardiff.

Don Hansen, the founder of Hansen Surfboards, didn't have your typical surf-centered upbringing. Born in Redfield, South Dakota, Hansen discovered surfing while attending college in Santa Cruz. He did a short stint in the Army after college before returning back to California. It was here that he apprenticed under industry legend, Jack O'Neill. In 1961, Don opened the doors to Hansen Surfboards, located on the North Shore of Oahu. The 50/50 model became one of Hansen's most popular, iconic designs and was considered by some as a rival to the Weber Performer.

This particular board's relatively shorter length, sharp tail, and low rocker give it a hotdoggin’ appearance for a mid-60’s era board. The stringer on this board really draws your attention. It has a beautiful green ½” stringer with ⅛” natural wood outline on each side, all trimmed in a thin teal blue pinstripe. The blue pinstripe matches the blue in the logo and the fin screw border. It features Hansen’s “pointed tail” and the original single screw fin setup with an included 10” fin.

Overall, this board is in good condition considering its age. There are expected pressure heel dents, some of which have glassing fractures. The pictures accurately represent any blemishes, and this board displays nicely in person. It appears to have aged consistently with no standout issues, and it’s priced fairly.

Dimensions are approximately 8’10” x 22 ¼” x 3”
